about

This is another one that I was working on while I was on the road. I love the two or three note rhythmic riffs in the verse. The melody during the drop is my bass through the Way Huge Swollen Pickle fuzz and an awesome pitch-shifter called the Pitch Fork. I also used this sound for the verse bass-line in "Forget Me." Lyrically, this is by far the nerdiest song. Lord Ofthe Rings fans, will notice lyrics such as "The stronghold of Daguldor," "the Black Gate has been opened," and "‘the One Ring has never fallen." Essentially, it is about Sauron’s rise and fall from power, and how he wants to regain his human form and cover the world in an everlasting darkness.

This is probably also a good time to point out that 100% of the guitars and bass on the album were recorded DI from my Fractal Audio Axe FX Mark II. It is an amazingly diverse piece of technology with more models of amps and cabs than you could ever dream of. We didn't need a single real life amplifier the entire time.

lyrics

Some say that darkness never will amount to much,

‘cause the moon gives way to the morning sun

Well the sun has set, but here comes the heat

Through the haze, across the sea

I could never live in that fantasy

What's a tree to you is a branch to me

What's goin' on in that world I left ya,

‘cause I turn the heat on and then I slept,

You never know when I could come sneaking back

‘cause they be standin' up and I be knocking 'em flat,

‘cause I'm the bad one

You can knock me out but I'mma hold on to my human form,

Comin' from the stronghold of Daguldor,

before you see me, you are gonna feel the storm

I see your war and that fire and it's coming for me,

Feelin' your presence every night now, swift and cunning

The light will fail and you'll be left alone

with only dark inside, and no place to go

Top ofthe world still belongs to me,

‘cause I'm comin' back down to reality

Lay your weapons down, accept your defeat

What's goin' on in that world I left ya,

‘cause I turn the heat on and then I slept,

you never know when I could come sneaking back

‘cause they be standin' up and I be knocking 'em flat

‘cause I'm the bad one

You can knock me out but I'mma hold on to my human form,

Comin' from the stronghold of Daguldor,

before you see me, you are gonna feel the storm

‘cause I'm the power that you're never gonna get back

everything you've foreseen is gonna collapse

Escape to the west, ‘cause the dark returns,

before everything you love burns

Break me, help me feel again,

The Black Gate has been opened

The One Ring has never fallen

The light will fail and you'll be left alone,

with only dark inside, and no place to go

(Help me feel again)
